SIB Chair Presents at MAGIT Meeting

Liz Skidmore, Boston SIB Committee chair, attended the second Massachusetts Girls In Trades (MAGIT) student leadership meeting. Sisters from the Boston committee and the New England Council have been deeply involved with the leadership group.

These young leaders have been champions and promoters of “working in the trades.” During the meeting, 30 leaders shared ways they support the trades by reporting on several projects. These included touring middle schools to encourage fellow students to consider “non-traditional” learning opportunities, speaking to parent groups to build more parental support, and presenting to School Boards to seek funding for Career & Technical (CTE) schools.

Liz talked about the Carpenters Union and shared information about career opportunities. She is pictured (red jacket) with some students as they display answers to a “challenge others” exercise.

The event was very successful and the students, as well as their parents, left inspired.
