Every day, thousands of women play a critical role in making the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America the best union in North America. Sisters in the Brotherhood (SIB) supports female members by providing assistance in obtaining craft training and leadership skills; by being advocates on women issues; and by mentoring new members and even potential members.
The SIB newsletters contain TIPS for building a strong Sisters committee. Published monthly, the newsletter features tips and stories submitted by SIB Committees. Learn more about the newsletter, read past issues, and find out how to submit your Committee’s story now.
Sisters engage in political action to support the people and policies that support Carpenter’s values. Within their Locals and Councils, Sisters help with campaigns, phone banks, material drops, and other things. Learn more about what Sisters have done, and continue doing, to stay politically engaged and knowledgeable. Use this information to start or expand the political actions you take to support Carpenter’s values.
Regional councils are proud of their Sisters in the Brotherhood and provide regular updates on their successes, training opportunities, and council updates. Read your regional council’s updates now.
UBC provides important resources to help Regional Council or Local Unions create and manage their own Sisters in the Brotherhood committees. A core part of the SIB mission is encouraging action and involvement at the local and regional level, and this resource library can be a valuable tool for doing just that.

The UBC International Sisters in the Brotherhood Committee (SIB) offers opportunities to network and participate in workshops that expose women to UBC history and develop skills to become more active within the union. SIB events, meetings, and resources, both local and online, offer substantive support for women members in every Council. If you have the drive and the can-do attitude to become a true professional, consider becoming a member of the UBC.
Get news and information about the SIB delivered straight to your mobile phone. The Sisters in the Brotherhood texting program enables members to stay in the loop when news about our Union is available.
